SERVICES

Health and Safety (H&S) Coordinator

We supply H&S coordinators to a range of projects. Their task is to coordinate the application of general health and safety principles and the activities of all participants in order to ensure the effectiveness of H&S principles in a consistent and responsible manner.

AFJ's internal policy provides for individual tutoring for each of our technicians joining a project. During the initial work phases, departmental heads execute daily follow-up. Monitoring is ongoing throughout the project lifetime, underpinning each intervention made by our personnel and ensuring the success of our services.

WHAT IS A H&S COORDINATOR (HSC)?

H&S coordinators are trained technicians forming part of the project management team, who are appointed by the developer to undertake coordination of the application of general health and safety principles.

WHY APPOINT A HSC DURING THE EXECUTION OF WORKS?
  • - To coordinate the application of general health and safety principles.
  • - To coordinate contractors, sub-contractors, and freelancers, ensuring that they comply with the Health and Safety Act
WHEN IS IT NECCESARY TO APPOINT A HSC DURING THE EXECUTION OF WORKS?

When execution of works involves more than one company; one company and a number of self-employed workers; or multiple freelance workers.

WHO APPOINTS THE HSC?

The developer appoints the HSC.

CAN THE HSC ALSO BE THE PROJECT SUPERVISOR?

Yes, if he or she has health and safety training. However, it is not recommended, since the project supervisor is in charge of other tasks and it is considered difficult for this person to satisfactorily carry out both roles simultaneously. In such situations, H&S coordination normally suffers.

WHAT OBLIGATIONS DO HSCs HAVE?

  • - To approve H&S plans.
  • - To organize coordination of business activities to comply with H&S legislation.
  • - To take necessary measures so that only authorized personnel may come onto the site.
  • - To submit to the workplace inspection authority a copy of each incident recorded in the incident book.
  • - To warn contractors on non-compliance in health and safety, halting works if necessary.
